People for Palmer Park

Event:
WinterFest: Celebrate Love & Black History at the Historic Log Cabin

People for Palmer Park will hold a free WinterFest community celebration on February 11, 2023 from 2-5 pm. It will be a Black History and pre-Valentine’s Day event with a “Love Your Park” theme. The event will include:

  • Opening the historic Log Cabin (which we have been restoring to be a center for community gatherings, and educational and cultural enrichment),
  • Winter sports and activities (such as ice skating and snow shoeing, weather permitting),
  • Horse and carriage rides,
  • Entertainment (live music by children/emerging artists and adults/professionals, storytelling, youth theatrical performers, African drumming/dancing)
  • Arts and crafts, and Valentines card-making to deliver to veterans, children, and others in hospitals…and more!
  • We will rent a large tent that will be heated to expand the space for people to enjoy the entertainment and activities
  • We will give away hot cocoa, cookies and other treats (with community partners)
  • We will collect books and hats/mittens/gloves/scarves (especially for children) to give away to those in need
  • We will encourage attendees to join us for more activities in the spring and summer — specially to volunteer at our Earth Day cleanup in April and other events to beautify and uplift the park and the community.

Since 2011, People for Palmer Park has been holding free community celebrations to engage and connect neighbors and park users to encourage healthy living, love of nature and the environment, and to develop friendships and grow bonds between people of diverse backgrounds, ages, races, ethnicities, and identities. As a regional park, we also strive to find harmony between urban and suburban visitors, and encourage volunteerism and participation to improve the park and quality of life for all.
