Northwest Detroit Farmers' Market

The Northwest Detroit Farmers' Market, a community engagement initiative by Grandmont Rosedale Development Corporation that has been running since 2005. It is a weekly vibrant, community-centric market where local farmers, artisans, and entrepreneurs share their fresh produce, unique crafts, and delicious foods with our community. Operating every Thursday from June through October, our market is not just a place to shop; it's an essential hub for supporting local small businesses, providing family friendly events, which foster community connections.

Role Overview: We are seeking enthusiastic volunteers to join our Farmers' Market Support Team! This is a fantastic opportunity for those looking to contribute positively to their community, learn more about local businesses and resources, and be part of a team dedicated to making healthy, locally sourced food and products accessible to everyone.

          Key Responsibilities:

  • Setup and Teardown: Assist vendors with setting up their stalls at the beginning of the market day and help with cleanup and teardown at the end. Setup is from 1:00-3:30 pm and tear down starts 7:30-8:45 pm.
  • Customer Service: Provide information to visitors about the farmers' market, vendors, and available products. Help create a welcoming and friendly environment for all.

    Qualifications:

  • Passion for community service, local agriculture, and sustainable living.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team and adapt to various tasks as needed.
  • Must be able to perform physical activities such as lifting up to 25 lbs., standing for extended periods, and working outdoors.
  • Volunteers under 18 must have parental consent.

Commitment: We ask our volunteers to commit to at least one shift per month. Shifts typically run from 1-3:30 pm for set up or 5-8:30 pm for market support and tear down
