Program objective: Facilitate access to health services and promote the culture of self-care among the Mexican migrant population living in the United States, to promote disease prevention and control. Program services: ● Recommendation and referral to health services (community clinics) to establish a medical home and / or when a specialized medical service is required. ● Guidance / Counseling on health issues: proper nutrition, physical activity, diabetes, women's health and children's health, mental health, addiction prevention, dental hygiene, among others. ● Assistance with registration for COVID vaccine. ● Information on medical insurance alternatives for Mexicans residing in the United States. Volunteer activities: The volunteer contributes jointly with the person in charge of the VDS program, for the fulfillment of the general objectives of the program. ● Preparation of educational material with information relevant to current health issues. ● Active participation in the health days organized by the VDS. ● Assistance for the registration and monitoring of people interested in participating in the services, programs, events or courses offered by the VDS. ● Assistance for the elaboration of databases and preparation of reports. Skills and screening: Some prior knowledge of basic health related topics, understanding of computers, Microsoft office, Google suite and Canva (preferred), fluency in Spanish language. Screening interviews and background checks are part of this process. Schedule and location: Friday mornings at the Mexican Consulate located in Sterling Heights.
