Calling all MittenMakers!
If you sew, knit or crochet, this is a perfect volunteer opportunity! Our annual Stashbusting Kids' Stripey Mittens Charity Muster is a way for you to create and donate new, warm mittens for kids ages 4-9 years old AND GET RID OF YOUR YARN OR FABRIC STASH!!! Kids love mix-and-match clothing, and they also are wild about stripes. If you have WARM and EASY CARE fabric or yarn, please join us in this fun campaign.
You can create them when and where you like, and Summer is the perfect time for small take-along projects such as mittens. Any pattern you use is great, as long as they are warm and easy care (yes, we know we are repeating ourselves!) mittens. This is a PERFECT project for your knitting/sewing/crochet group.... how many can YOU make??
Some tips:
- Make the cuffs a little long so that they can be tucked into sleeves and prevent the snow and cold from getting onto their arms.
- Consider making a yarn I-Cord to connect the pair. A good way to figure out how long it should be would be to take a tape measure to the correct size jacket for the pairs you are making and add 2". Or skip the cord and include a set of mitten clips!
- There are free patterns on our website and our Facebook MittensMaker group.
- Have fun with the design! Kids' mittens are quick projects, and every pair will help keep a child's hands warm. YOU will make a difference!
