SAY Detroit

Volunteer Opportunity:
A Time to Help Detroit Hives with Landscaping

This opportunity has passed.

Native Detroiters Timothy Paule Jackson & Nicole Lindsey developed an interest in bees and honey circa 2016 when Timothy realized all the amazing benefits of honey; especially local honey. The couple took months of local classes in beekeeping, then in 2017 they purchased their first lot turning it into an urban bee farm, Detroit Hives was born. They are a SAY Detroit partner and recipient of funds raised during the annual radiothon.

Volunteers will be helping with landscaping at one of their newest locations in the Osborn neighborhood. Fun fact: Detroit rap star Eminem’s childhood home used to be on the very spot of the wildlife garden.

Project scope: Landscaping on one of the grounds for Detroit Hives will entail weeding their wild flower habitat, tending to the lawn, planting more flowers, laying mulch, and a general clean up of the three parcel property.

Volunteers Needed: 15-25

Parking: Plenty of street parking available.

Attire/Other Info: Please dress for outdoor cleaning and gardening. Bring your own gardening gloves. Tools will be provided, but please bring more of your own that can help the project. Event will be postponed if it rains.

This is a registration-only event through Bloomerang Volunteer – please be sure to sign up and select the shift in STEP 2 of registration or your spot will not be reserved.. If you don’t feel well, please stay home and unregister from the event so we know not to expect you.
