Volunteer Opportunity:
Prison/Jail Visitor - Washtenaw County Jail
I'm Interested!

Visit a correctional facility and interact with inmates to help them select a book(s) to read to their child. Record them reading the book and encourage the parent to create a greeting card for the child to accompany the book and audiotape that will be mailed to their child. Must be at least 18 yrs old, have a high school diploma, and reliable transportation. Will be asked to submit to a background check and complete facility orientation for volunteers. Our volunteers visit the facilities in pairs, making visits 1-2 times monthly for a 2 hour visit on a regularly scheduled weekday evening or Sunday afternoon. Currently, we run the program at Huron Valley Women's Correctional Facility, 3201 Beemis Rd., Ypsilanti, MI 48197 (Tuesday evenings 6-8pm) and Washtenaw County Jail , 2201 Hogback Rd., Ann Arbor, MI 48105 (Sunday 1-3pm and Wednesday evenings (5:30-7:30pm).
