This opportunity has passed.
Amber Mitchell has been the primary caregiver/gardener at the SAY Detroit Play Center after taking over the role 3 years ago, but has since been promoted to new position (congrats!). With more on her plate but as passionate as ever about the garden, she sent an SOS for SAY Detroit volunteers help prepare the garden for the summer.
Project scope: Amber is awaiting for transplants to be delivered. There are 9 beds that needs to get cleared out, weeded, and turning the soil into beds. Sign in to assist so that she won’t have to do this solo! Feel free to bring tools.
Volunteers Needed: 6-15
Parking: Free parking in the lot on site.
Attire/Other Info: Please dress for outdoor cleaning and gardening. Bring your own gardening gloves. Tools will be provided, but please bring more of your own that can help the project. Event will be postponed if it rains.
This is a registration-only event through Bloomerang Volunteer – please be sure to sign up and select the shift in STEP 2 of registration or your spot will not be reserved.. If you don’t feel well, please stay home and unregister from the event so we know not to expect you.

About SAY Detroit Play Center
One of the jewels of SAY Detroit, SAY Play empowers youth by providing high quality pathways to success in a safe, nurturing and enriching environment. Set on nearly 15 acres in the Osborn community in northeast Detroit, SAY Play was transformed from an abandoned city recreation center. It is home to a premier after-school program, a summer camp, and ever-growing adult-driven programming for its surrounding community. Two connected facilities — the Lipke Center and the Stafford Center, a new expansion completed earlier this year — boast classrooms; a gymnasium with a basketball court refurbished by the Detroit Pistons; dance and music studios; a black-box theatre; vocational workshops; a Digital Educational Enrichment Program hall; a regulation football field; and a kitchen which serves all students a full hot meal and snacks. All services are free of charge.
