Position Overview: The Volunteer Grant Writer will play a vital role in securing funding for the organization's programs and initiatives through grant writing and research. This volunteer position offers an excellent opportunity to utilize your writing skills to make a meaningful impact on our mission and help us continue our work in the community.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Research potential grant opportunities from government agencies, foundations, corporations, and other funding sources that align with the organization's mission and programs.
  2. Write compelling grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and grant reports to secure funding for specific projects and general operating expenses.
  3. Collaborate with program managers and other staff members to gather information and data necessary for grant applications.
  4. Customize grant proposals to meet the requirements and priorities of each funding opportunity, ensuring alignment with the organization's goals and objectives.
  5. Develop and maintain relationships with grantmakers and funding partners through regular communication and updates on the organization's activities and impact.
  6. Stay informed about current trends and best practices in grant writing and fundraising strategies to enhance the organization's grant-seeking efforts.
  7. Track and maintain records of grant submissions, deadlines, and outcomes using a grant management system or spreadsheet.
  8. Assist in the preparation of grant budgets and financial reports as needed, working closely with the finance and accounting team.
  9. Participate in meetings and brainstorming sessions to identify funding needs and develop strategies to diversify revenue streams.
  10. Represent the organization professionally and ethically in all interactions with funders and partners.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent writing skills with the ability to craft persuasive and well-researched grant proposals and reports.
  • Strong research skills and attention to detail, with the ability to gather and synthesize information from multiple sources.
  • Knowledge of grant writing techniques and best practices, including grant prospecting, proposal development, and grant management.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and external stakeholders.
  • Previous experience in grant writing, fundraising, or nonprofit development is preferred but not required.
  • Commitment to the organization's mission and values, with a passion for making a positive impact in the community.
