Position Overview: The Volunteer Grant Writer will play a vital role in securing funding for the organization's programs and initiatives through grant writing and research. This volunteer position offers an excellent opportunity to utilize your writing skills to make a meaningful impact on our mission and help us continue our work in the community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Research potential grant opportunities from government agencies, foundations, corporations, and other funding sources that align with the organization's mission and programs.
- Write compelling grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and grant reports to secure funding for specific projects and general operating expenses.
- Collaborate with program managers and other staff members to gather information and data necessary for grant applications.
- Customize grant proposals to meet the requirements and priorities of each funding opportunity, ensuring alignment with the organization's goals and objectives.
- Develop and maintain relationships with grantmakers and funding partners through regular communication and updates on the organization's activities and impact.
- Stay informed about current trends and best practices in grant writing and fundraising strategies to enhance the organization's grant-seeking efforts.
- Track and maintain records of grant submissions, deadlines, and outcomes using a grant management system or spreadsheet.
- Assist in the preparation of grant budgets and financial reports as needed, working closely with the finance and accounting team.
- Participate in meetings and brainstorming sessions to identify funding needs and develop strategies to diversify revenue streams.
- Represent the organization professionally and ethically in all interactions with funders and partners.
Qualifications:
- Excellent writing skills with the ability to craft persuasive and well-researched grant proposals and reports.
- Strong research skills and attention to detail, with the ability to gather and synthesize information from multiple sources.
- Knowledge of grant writing techniques and best practices, including grant prospecting, proposal development, and grant management.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and external stakeholders.
- Previous experience in grant writing, fundraising, or nonprofit development is preferred but not required.
- Commitment to the organization's mission and values, with a passion for making a positive impact in the community.
