Volunteer Opportunity:
Career Mentors for Metro Detroit Students
I'm Interested!

We help Metro Detroit students figure out what they’ll do after high school and teach them life and job readiness skills needed for success. Through our program, we match students with a volunteer Career Mentor who participates with students in our Workforce Prep program. 90 percent of the students are people of color and all want a Career Mentor. Career Mentors meet with students 2 to 3 times per month for one hour from November through May. All sessions are held at participating schools, during the school day, and with staff, teachers, and students present. Each session starts with a staff member who facilitates a 10-15 minute lesson, then Career Mentors participate with students in a fun and planned activity that reinforces the lesson. The curriculum is evidence-based and includes topics like: career exploration; strengths and weaknesses; overcoming challenges; communication; teamwork, preparing for college and trade school, and goal setting. Career Mentors receive training before sessions begin and support before, during, and after every session. Apply online or get more information at https://winningfutures.org/volunteer/mentor/
