Virtual or In-person Literacy Tutor - Adult ESL

Oakland Literacy Council seeks volunteers to serve as tutors English language learners who live or work in Oakland County. These are adult immigrants who need help reading, writing, and speaking English. Tutors help adult learners improve reading, writing, and communication skills, so they can read their mail, apply for jobs, and communicate with teachers, doctors, and others in the community. This is our highest area of need.

Tutors work on a one-on-one basis with learners for two hours a week or a year (with time off for vacations and holidays). Currently, most tutoring occurs virtually, but some pairs are meeting in person now. In-person meetings occur in public locations such as a library.

The Council trains all volunteers and provides proven curriculum. No special background is required. This is a volunteer opportunity where you really see the positive change you have on another person's life!
