Virtual or In-person Tutoring - Adult Basic Math

Oakland Literacy Council seeks volunteers to serve as math tutors for adults who live or work in Oakland County. These students are typically English-speaking, U.S-born adults who have not acquired sufficient basic math skills.Tutors help adult learners improve their math skills so they can calculate prices and discounts, balance their checkbooks, enter a GED program, quality for advanced training, jobs, or higher education, and more.

Tutors work on a one-on-one basis with learners for two hours a week or a year (with time off for vacations and holidays). Currently, most tutoring occurs virtually, but some pairs are meeting in person now. In-person meetings occur in public locations such as a library.

We also have a great need for tutors to work with English language learners. Please see that volunteer opportunity as well.

The Council trains all volunteers and provides proven curriculum. No special background is required. This is a volunteer opportunity where you really see the positive change you have on another person's life!
