All Saints Literacy Center
All Saints Literacy Center enables adult learners to meet the challenges of today by improving their reading, writing, math and English speaking skills. Qualified tutors provide an individualized learning plan tailored to the goals and objectives of the learner in a welcoming environment. Our literacy program has volunteer tutors who work one to one providing English as a Second Language (ESL) tutoring where reading, writing, speaking and listening skills are taught. All levels are welcome, whether the person is a beginner, intermediate or advanced learner. Additionally, we have an Adult Basic Education (ABE) program where tutors teach people how to read or improve their reading ability. The programs serve adult learners ages 18 and up. There is no cost for the program. We also have a Digital Learning Program where students independently use computer software and online programs that aid in their language acquisition. The learners with low technology skills will have an opportunity to improve basic computer literacy while using the computers at our Center or virtually. The majority of tutors work with ESL students who need help learning English to meet their goals. All training and materials are provided. The volunteer time commitment is two hours per week with the student and one hour of lesson preparation time at home. Tutoring is scheduled at a mutually agreed time between the tutor and student, and the tutoring takes place virtually. The program lasts 20 classes and typically takes six months to complete.
