What We Do

Birdie's Bookmobile is a non-profit organization dedicated to eliminating book deserts and getting books into the hands and homes of children and families in Detroit. Our mission is to make quality diverse + culturally relevant books more accessible, increasing the number of books children have access to at home, and improving literacy outcomes.

We have a variety of strategies for achieving this impact, including distributing FREE BOOKS at no cost to students, schools, and  partner organizations in Metro Detroit via recurring grade-banded monthly, bi-monthly, or quarterly book fairs. We also offer embedded literacy enrichment programs

Interesting Info
  • Birdie's Bookmobile has distributed more than 57,000 FREE books to children and families in Metro Detroit.
  • We will have 26 Little Free Libraries installed at schools and non-profit organizations and in communities in Detroit by the November 2024.
  • We are partnered with Detroit Public Schools and more than 40 charter schools and non-profit organizations in Metro Detroit.
