The mission of Creative Odyssey is to offer low-cost classes to ensure that children in the greater Detroit area and beyond have an opportunity to speak through all forms of ART!
Creative Odyssey is BIPOC-led and women-led. It has been a vision of its founder, Samantha Vann, since childhood. She wanted to create a safe space for children to be educated and uplifted. Creative Odyssey has been that safe space and a virtual hub fostering international connections between artists and children since January 1, 2020.
Since its beginning, Creative Odyssey has strived to purchase and deliver art supplies to youth, offer virtual art classes, and ensure children remain engaged with arts, even during the uncertain times of the pandemic. The organization began with 2 classes and artists, serving 15 children, to over 20 classes and artists, serving over 250 children in Detroit and around the world. These courses have included (but are not limited to):
- Vocal Training/Choir
- Choreography
- Martial Arts
- Tumbling
- Fitness
- Acting
- Fashion Design
- General Arts
- Sign Language
- Life Skills
Great collaborations and support have continuously allowed us to nurture the mental health of youth and handicap youth across the world. As we near the end of our 3rd year, we would like to thank everyone who has allowed this dream to continuously become reality: collaborators, supporters, parents, children and families alike. We would also like to thank the following sponsors:
- Detroit Red Wings
- Detroit Tigers
- Little Caesars
- Blick Art Materials
- Walmart
Namaste.
- The pandemic didn't slow us down; we offered virtual classes for 9 months, even hosting a concert for seniors, to create joy from within hardship.
- We have taught children living in India and Nigeria.
- One of our collaborators, boasting many magazine features, provides face painting services to several local school districts.
