What We Do

Faith Works is a volunteer group of men, women and young adults committed to helping those in need in our community by completing necessary home repairs, modifications and maintenance. From its inception and still at the heart of what they do, Faith Works is dedicated to improving the lives of financially distressed single moms, widows, elderly, veterans and disabled in our community; specifically addressing the health and safety of their living conditions.

There is a staggering amount of our neighbors who have simply fallen on hard times due to illness, divorce, or job loss (especially since Covid-19), and are asking for the type of assistance Faith Works provides.

Through the skilled trades and construction talent of the membership, qualified recipients are assured of long-term solutions to costly home repairs. Faith Works does not charge for labor to complete a project. Materials for a typical small repair project range from $300 - $600, major modifications can run as much as $10,000 or more.

Faith Works does not approve and move forward on a project unless the funding has been secured to complete it. Consequently, there are times when much-needed help has to be put on hold.

Although there are some government programs that provide limited financial support for home repairs, the application process often involves rigorous requirements, and funds are limited. During a time of financial distress, we see home repairs take second place to other critical needs such as food. The disrepair often becomes a health or safety hazard. For example, a leaky faucet left unfixed can lead to mold issues, not replacing a furnace can lead to frozen pipes or to a temporary fix using an electric heater which creates a safety hazard. Safety and health problems are both a risk for the disabled who try to maneuver in and out of their home without proper handicap modifications in place.

"Jenn has an adopted 11-year-old son with a severe eating disorder. Her son’s health issues recently led to him have a heart attack. Jenn cannot lift him (he weighs over 300 lbs.) and the bathroom is not wheelchair accessible, so he wears diapers."

A project such as this involves creating a handicap-accessible home, including a bathroom remodel, modifications and updates to the kitchen, create an eating area and other minor functional modifications. At any given time, Faith Works has 2-3 project requests such as this and many more.
