Joy Southfield Community Development Corporation
Founded by Second Grace United Methodist Church in 2001, Joy Southfield Community Development Corporation began operating a “mini-clinic” for uninsured residents, located in the church. The clinic grew to support a diverse network of churches, faiths, community organizations, and foundations; enabling JSCDC to begin reducing healthcare disparities within the community.
In time, Covenant Community Care united with JSCDC to provide primary health care at the Joy Southfield Health and Wellness Center. This expanded capacity to serve health care to residents. As an outcome there is an ongoing series of forums to engaging local residents, community partners, philanthropic partners, governmental, and corporate representatives.
For over 20 years, Joy Southfield Community Development Corporation (JSCDC) has successfully deployed services and sustained neighborhoods in west Detroit. JSCDC focuses on dismantling the underlining factors and structures in outdated systems by prioritizing the social determinants responsible for inequalities; side by side with the utilization of local and strategic partnerships, and resources, to support residents and businesses in building a healthy and thriving community. Together we strive to build a happier, healthier, and more sustainable Detroit for all.
