Michigan Children's Law Center represents children who are in the child welfare system and juvenile justice system in Michigan. We serve as the lawyers who advocate for their legal and/or best interests within the Courts programs which include the Mental Health Court, Drug Court and Baby Docket. We also provide Education Advocacy and Aging Out Advocacy for our clients. Additionally, MCLC helps families by providing school supplies, clothing, housing resources, domestic violence prevention advocacy, literacy training, restorative practices, therapeutic and trauma informed advocacy, resource education and more.
We believe in fighting for children in the courtroom and helping them and the community outside of the courtroom. We recently hosted our first Grandparent/Grandchild Day of Honor to give a day of arts, recreation, self defense training, and resources for senior citizens who are raising or are instrumental in their grandchildren's lives.
- We created an Aging Out Unit to help older children in fostercare navigate through their case closure by connecting them to community organizations.
- We created an Education Unit to address the core issues of what brings many children and families to court. The court adopted this program.
- We created an internship/externship program to raise fostercare and juvenile justice awareness among future leaders.
