NAMI Metro works with residents in coordinating and advocating for services to better serve those with a mental illness and their families. NAMI Metro exists to provide excellence in support, education and advocacy as a grassroots volunteer organization, dedicated to maximizing the quality of life for all who are impacted by a mental illness, and eliminating the associated stigma. In addition, NAMI Metro promotes research that will lead to improvements for all those diagnosed and living with a mental illness. It is our endeavor to erase the stigma that is associated with mental illness and we will not rest until mental illness is accepted the same as any other illness. NAMI Metro members and friends work tirelessly to meet shared NAMI goals through many activities. Understanding mental health begins with key education and support.

These include:

  • Families in Action (FIA)- a highly acclaimed 10-week interactive workshop designed to help families learn how to cope, find community resources, recognize symptoms, communicate better and best support an individual on the road to recovery.
  • Ending the Silence - an interactive presentation that helps middle school and high school teens learn about the warning signs of mental health conditions as well as what steps they should take to find support for themselves or their friends.
  • Connection Support Recovery Groups - a confidential and safe support group for adults living with mental health conditions run by trained peers who have lived experiences.
  • Family Support Groups - through a NAMI Family Support Group you can find hope and support by connecting with others who face similar challenges.
  • In Our Own Voice - this interactive presentation provides insight into what it's like to live with mental illness. Using their personal stories, NAMI In Our Own Voice presenters walk you through their experiences, from early onset of symptoms to how they are today, and everything in between. Speakers Bureau, General Public Education meetings, Legislative Advocacy, and more.
