Peace Tree Parks
What We Do
Peace Tree Parks Non-Profit Organization is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization that was founded with the mission to increase the access that Metro Detroit residents have to fresh organic produce by converting vacant land into community gardens. To execute this mission, two programs were created: 1) residential garden program, 2) community garden program. These programs work together and are designed to reach those in need regardless of race, age, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status. We use our community gardens as a path to demonstrate and educate residents about gardening with the goal of encouraging students/residents to begin gardening themselves.
Interesting Info
- Installed over 75 residential gardens at the home of Metro-Detroit residents.
- Converted 11 vacant lots in Detroit into community gardens.
- We just built a 42-foot geodesic grow dome to extend our growing season to a year-round operation. We strive to be a local resource for produce in Detroit.
