Picking Up The pieces is an organization providing transitioning housing families who have secured housing yet have no resources for basic essential furniture items to make their house a home. The organization will accomplish this by offering assistants with gently used or new items donated to us to provide families with beds, mattresses, kitchen basics, dressers, basic lighting, bedding, basic sitting items, wall décor, dining room basics and bathroom essentials.
Picking Up The Pieces addresses challenges of transitional housing families and decreases homeless re-entry due to the inability to acquire basic needed items while still trying to maintain in an economically challenged state.
Families lose hope and focus when walking into a house with nothing to make a home; in which an empty home creates a different shelter atmosphere. Our goal is not just to assist the families in the interior design process, but to also give them a sense of “home”, a sense of comfort, a sense of dignity, and a sense of pride when walking into their new space. Our goal is to see homeless re-entry decrease in Michigan and provide homeless important partnerships with shelters, transitional housing organizations, and other community organizations in the homeless to homed process. We would like to partner with other community organizations that will assist and align with the vision, goals and community efforts as Picking up the pieces to expand the efforts, recourses, and growth of the organization.
Our elected Board Members have a strong background in nonprofit organizations, in helping individuals strive in overcoming obstacles, and have deep ties in the community they serve daily. In addition, Picking Up The Piece’s Executive Director’s experience has been in the medical administrative field for over 13 years, which brings the presents and respect of gentle kindness and compassion concerning people in need, formulating and implementing strategic planning, effective management as regards to operational budgets and funding while taking goals and missions to new heights for a multiple billion dollar industry. In addition, her passion for interior design and turning “nothing into something” will practical and innovative design methods to the design team.
