St Patrick Senior Center is the largest health, wellness and activities center for Detroiters 55 and over.
In October of 2023, we celebrated our 50th anniversary with a gala event at the MGM Grand Detroit, attended by more than 500 of our friends and supporters.
St. Pat's has been a mainstay of Midtown since our founding by Sister Mary Watson in 1973. Our center has long been known as a place filled with fun, food and friendship.
Here is just some of what St. Pat has long offered:
- Nutritious meals served in our cafeteria, often to 200 or more gathered together in fellowship. Meals are offered from 11:30 AM to 1 PM Monday through Friday, and on the third and fourth Saturdays of the month. They can be enjoyed in our dining room, in the park out side, or carried out.
- An onsite clinic, plus classes, workshops and discussions aimed at helping members maintain good health. Many are offered online.
- Transportation to and from medical appointments, dialysis, etc.
- Assistance with benefits navigation – a major issue for many older adults
- Coordination of in-home services including caregiving, respite services, repairs and light housekeeping
- Dozens of dance and exercise programs – including Hustle, Chicago Step, and even a Belly Dance group!
- Fun-filled activities ranging from craft making to our own gospel choir
In recent years we have established a major computer/technology training program in partnership with Comcast, allowing hundreds of our members and friends to utilize their devices and the internet to enhance the quality of their lives. Our technology training is now offered at seven centers and senior residences across Detroit
We have also increased our outreach to those who have difficulty leaving home - including delivering groceries and other necessities, and offering personalized services in our "Friendly Reassurance" progam.
In 2025, St. Pat will take on one of its greatest initiatives ever - a two year program in which we'll assist seniors with both career developent and entrepreneurial opportunities, thanks to a grant from the Thome Foundation.
Anyone age 55 and over can join the Center regardless of where they live, income, religious affiliation, etc. A $15 annual membership allows access to all of the Center’s activities and input and recommendations on the Center’s programs and activities.
- St. Patrick Senior Center provides a "home away from home" for hundreds of older adults all year round.
- Sr. Mary Watson opened St Pats in 1973 in the former Girls Catholic Central High School to serve needy elderly residents of the Cass Corridor.
- The Detroit Area Agency on Aging (DAAA) recognized St. Patrick Senior Center as a model senior center in metro Detroit.
