General Expectations for Care House Board members: 1. Support Care House’s mission, goals, policies, and programs while knowing its strengths and needs. 2. Suggest possible nominees to the Board who are men and women of achievement and who can make significant contributions to the work of the Board and the progress of Care House. 3. Serve actively on committees of the Board as requested by the Chair. 4. Attend activities and events sponsored by Care House whenever possible. 5. Maintain confidentiality of the Board’s sessions and speak for the board or Care House only when authorized to do so. 6. Serve Care House as a whole rather than any special interest group or constituency. 7. Avoid even the appearance of a conflict of interest that might compromise the Care House Board and disclose any possible conflicts to the board in a timely fashion. 8. Exercise prudence and sound fiscal practices with the Board in the control of and transfer of Care House funds. 9. Faithfully read and understand Care House’s financial statements and otherwise help the board fulfill its fiduciary responsibility. 10. Make an annual gift to Care House that is personally meaningful to you and in accordance to personal means, and with the realization that the leadership role the Board plays in fund development. This gift may be in the form of a donation of cash, goods or services, a fundraising effort on behalf of Care House or by helping Care House secure significant connections that lead to funding support. 11. Assist Care House with development of and implementation of fund development strategies. 12. Make Care House one of your top three giving and serving priorities.
All Care House Board members must be18 years of age or older, complete a Board member application, interview and orientation. Care House staff, interns, volunteers and board members must have no criminal convictions (felonies/crimes) of child abuse or neglect, domestic violence or other violent crimes and no listing as a perpetrator on the Department of Health and Human Services Central Registry. and be willing to give consent for a criminal background check, Child Protective Services Central Registry check, reference check and agency orientation.
