We help Metro Detroit students figure out what they’ll do after high school, teach them life and job skills needed for success, and provide guidance and support as they pursue their goals. Career mentors are volunteers from the local business community who coach students as they progress through our program, answering their questions and providing encouragement. Career Mentors meet with students 2 to 3 times per month for one hour from November through May. All sessions are held at participating schools, during the school day, and with staff, teachers, and students present. Each session starts with a staff member who facilitates a 10 to 15-minute lesson, then Career Mentors participate with students in a fun and planned activity that reinforces the lesson. The curriculum is evidence-based and includes topics like: career exploration; strengths and weaknesses; overcoming challenges; communication; teamwork, preparing for college and trade school, and goal setting. Career Mentors receive training before sessions begin and support before, during, and after every session. Apply online or get more information at https://winningfutures.org/volunteer/mentor/
