Friends of ITNDetroit dba Independence Rides is a nonprofit public charity (IRS 501.c.3) focused on providing dignified transportation independence for seniors and vision impaired adults. The service is designed specifically to address the needs of older adults in the Detroit metropolitan area.

As the COVID19 pandemic passes, we are slowly returning to providing rides beyond medical appointments and grocery shopping. These rides will eventually include visits to hair dressers, barbershops, local parks and museums, trips for personal banking, visiting friends & family, and more. These rides not only address the practical need for flexible transportation, but also reduce the negative impacts of social and economic isolation, so common among older adults.  

Overall Role:
Independence Rides is seeking a seasoned fundraiser to help achieve our mission of dignified rides for seniors and vision-impaired adults. In this role, the fundraiser will apply their expertise and experience to identifying fundraising opportunities that align with our mission. In partnership with the executive director, this includes initiating and developing relationships with donors, identifying speaking opportunities, and coordinating other activities that move Independence Ride to its financial goals.    

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: 
•    Apply well-developed research skills to identify individual and business donors who share our mission and vision  
•    Cultivate a network of dedicated volunteers as needed 
•    Form strong relationships with external stakeholders
•    Ensure all major donors are satisfied and kept informed 
•    Participate in strategy discussions and support specific project initiatives  

Required Qualifications: 
•    Minimum of five years experience in fundraising, marketing, and/or sales 
•    Experience and passion for research 
•    Exceptional communication skills 
•    Well developed attention to detail skills  
•    All applicants submit to a criminal background check

Preferred Qualifications: 
•    Confident in public speaking situations  
•    Diploma, certification, or similar fundraising qualifications  
•    Experience working with seniors and/or people with disabilities 
•    Competent using donor management systems 
•    Experience writing grant proposals, press releases, and fundraising letters
