St. Leo's Soup Kitchen

Volunteer Opportunity:
Kitchen/Dining Room Volunteer
I'm Interested!

Volunteers are the heart of St. Leo's Soup Kitchen. With only two part-time staff, we rely on our volunteers to help us serve those in need. Most of our guests are grateful for what we do and depend on us. For some, the lunch at the Soup Kitchen is the only meal they will have all day.

We serve a hot, nutritious lunch Tuesday through Friday from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. Volunteer shifts are 9:15 am to 1:00 pm. Each serving day, eight to ten volunteers share the work of the kitchen and dining room. This includes prepping and cooking the lunch under a chef's supervision, prepping the dining room and drinks, serving our guests, and helping with clean up.  Volunteers are on their feet the majority of the time. All volunteers wear a hairnet or hat, an apron and plastic gloves. We are happy to provide those or volunteers may bring their own. No open-toed shoes, please. Due to our small kitchen and dining room, we have limited opportunities for children under the age of 15.  We are open to community service volunteers, following a screening.

The lunch and dining room prep takes place in a casual environment. With background music, volunteers joke and laugh and get to know one another, while chopping, cooking and baking. They are also welcome to have lunch after serving.

If you are a potential community service volunteer, or have children under 15, please contact us before signing up.
