What We Do
Simply, we feed the hungry.
St. Leo's Soup Kitchen provides a hot, nutritious lunch every Tuesday through Friday, from 11:30-12:30, to primarily low-income residents of Detroit, Highland Park and Hamtramck, at no cost to them. We give out, on average, 150 meals per serving day. In addition, we hand out 60 sack lunches every Friday for patrons to take home after their hot meal.
We serve about 30,000 meals per year and are fully funded by donations and grants.
With only a 2-person, part-time staff, we rely on our 100+ volunteers, who are the heart of the Soup Kitchen.
Interesting Info
- St. Leo's began feeding the hungry over 100 years ago. We registered as a nonprofit in 2017.
- The Soup Kitchen has persevered and survived through riots, the pandemic, and a flood, which forced us to find a new location.
