To Educate a Young Woman is to Educate an Entire Generation

For over 30 years, Mercy Education Project has been a learning community in SW Detroit providing free afterschool tutoring in reading and math to girls in grades 2-12. Volunteer tutors are needed for a once a week (Monday - Thursday) commitment from 5:30-6:30 pm during the school year (September through May). Our tutors are placed with the same student weekly. If you need more scheduling flexibility, substitute tutors are also needed.  Training is provided as part of the volunteer tutor onboarding process. Our learning program includes individualized student curriculum using online software.  We have a program director always onsite for support and guidance. You pick what subject (math or reading) and what age group (elementary, middle school or high school) and you can start making a difference that affects generations to come! All prospective tutors complete an application form, a background check, online training modules, and in-person training.
