What We Do

Blessings in a Backpack - Dearborn feeds Dearborn Public Schools students who lack stable access to food on weekends. Each weekend during the school year, Blessings in a Backpack provides bags of easy-prep, shelf stable food to over 275 children at risk of hunger in Dearborn, Michigan.

We operate in seven Dearborn Public Schools, including Henry Ford, William Ford, Long, McDonald, Nowlin, River Oaks, and Whitmore-Bolles Elementary Schools. The students we feed receive meals at school during the week through the National School Lunch Program. Our program aims to bridge the gap from Friday to Monday, discreetly distributing meal bags to students at school on Fridays. We believe that helping students arrive at school well-fed every Monday positively impacts academic performance, attendance, health, and happiness.

With the help of our amazing volunteers and community partnerships, it takes only $120 per school year to give a Dearborn child the opportunity to thrive, free of the burden of hunger. Donations of any size make a real difference!

Blessings in a Backpack is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Our EIN is 26-1964620. Our organization's legal name is Blessings in a Backpack, Inc., which is the overarching organization for all of our chapters and programs across the United States.

Interesting Info
