January is National Mentoring Month! This is a time dedicated to highlight the importance of mentorship within our lives. A mentor is someone who provides their expertise in an area to a beginner in order to further that beginner’s development. And here’s a fun fact: the word mentor comes from The Odyssey wherein the character Mentor served as a guide to Odysseus's son Telemachus!
While any Tuesday can be a #GivingTuesday, this past November 29th was the official celebration of Giving Tuesday, a day that encourages people to do good. We here at SHARE held a local competition to spread the word about Giving Tuesday in Detroit. Winners of the competition each received $1,000 to continue their important work.
For it is in the giving that we receive.
Nothing great is ever done without much enduring.
You can have everything in life you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want.
My own eyes are not enough for me; I will see through those of others.
Don't count the things you do, do the things that count.
Be the reason someone smiles today.
There is nothing that makes you like other human beings so much as doing things for them.
