COTS Chief Development Officer Receives Certified Fund Raising Executives Designation

The Certified Fund Raising Executives, is an independent organization promoting ethics and professionalism in fundraising, confirmed Aisha Morrell-Ferguson, COTS’ Chief Development Officer, as one of only 180 this year and 7700 worldwide to receive their CFRE designation.

COTS CEO, Cheryl P. Johnson weighed in on Mrs. Morrell-Ferguson’s achievement with, “COTS is proud of Aisha rising to the top of her profession. She has substantially contributed to COTS’ 40 years of serving Detroit’s families in need. She has also played a vital role over the past 12 years as COTS adapted and evolved its approach to breaking the cycle of generational poverty.”

Mrs. Morrell-Ferguson met CFRE standards including tenure, education and demonstrated fundraising achievement. She also passed a written exam and has agreed to uphold the organization’s Accountability Standards and Donor Bill of Rights.

International Women's Day featuring Cheryl P. Johnson

On International Women’s Day, we would like to announce the election of Cheryl P. Johnson, CEO of COTS, as the current board chair of New Detroit, Inc. Ms. Johnson is an experienced non-profit leader and the first person of color, and Black woman, to lead in the racial equity organization’s 55-year history.

“Cheryl is purpose-driven and accomplished. She and the board made history by finally electing the first person of color and Black woman as chair. As the longtime CEO of COTS, she transformed the organization’s business model into a sophisticated nonprofit enterprise, using the Passport to Self-Sufficiency model to change the legacy of generational poverty. Cheryl manages multiple facilities, with a budget of $8 million,” said New Detroit CEO Michael Rafferty.
