“I have met many, many farmworkers and friends who love justice and who are willing to sacrifice for what is right. They have a quality about them that reminds me of the beatitudes. They are living examples that Jesus’ promise is true: they have been hungry and thirsty for righteousness and they have been satisfied. They are determined, patient people who believe in life and who give strength to others.” - Cesar Chavez
“No one has ever become poor by giving.” - Anne Frank

“We must be free not because we claim freedom, but because we practice it.” — William Faulkner
As we gather for this long weekend to celebrate the anniversary of our nation’s independence, let us use this time to reflect on what America means to ourselves and what it could mean for others. Need does not get a vacation so just as we want to gather and enjoy the company of our friends and family, it is important to remember those who may have a more complicated relationship to Independence Day or are otherwise requiring help this holiday.
We will use this space to highlight the amazing work our partner nonprofits do in the Detroit metro area each day to support our community, and we will provide insights into why joining, donating and volunteering with our partner nonprofits from Share Detroit’s platform will allow everyone to ‘do good’ in our community. Share Detroit is a 501c3 whose mission is to support and expand the reach of hundreds of SE Michigan based nonprofits that who are doing such important work each and every day.
We have so much great news to share from our nonprofit partners about their amazing work. But, we'd love to hear from you. Let us know if you have stories you'd like to tell and we'll make you a guest blogger!!
