How to Volunteer with Veterans
Detroit is home to over half a million veterans and a number of great nonprofits that support them! If you’re looking to find nonprofits serving veterans in Detroit, SHARE Detroit’s search categories are here to help you find one (or two or three!) that aligns with your values.
SHARE’s four pillars of giving are donating, volunteering, attending events, and shopping wish lists. We have four search pages relating to these pillars. The first one, donating, brings you to our complete directory. This directory can be accessed by clicking “Find Nonprofits” on the homepage and “Donate” on the navigation bar. Once in the directory, you can use the sidebar to select “Military” from “Who It Helps.”
You can select the same option of “Military” from the “Who It Helps” grouping on our volunteer, event, and wish list directories, which you can access via our homepage and navigation bar by clicking “Volunteer,” “Attend Events,” and “Shop for Good,” respectively.
Now, SHARE is partnered with a lot of nonprofits who support veterans as part of their larger mission so if you feel selecting “Military” alone does not give you the results you need, you can always use our search box on our navigation bar to search for veteran specific organizations by typing in “Veteran.”
When you search our whole site, you’ll find the most relevant nonprofits, volunteer opportunities, and events relating to whatever term you search. You’ll even see past blog posts!
When you view your search results, you will see a snippet of each nonprofit bio. From there, you can simply click directly on the organization you want to read more about. On each nonprofit’s page, you will find links to their home websites in addition to any open wish lists, events, or volunteer opportunities they have available.
