More Than a Platform: How Share Detroit Helps Nonprofits Like Camp Casey Thrive

“Share Detroit brings nonprofits together to share, learn, connect, and collaborate. That’s the real power behind it.”

In a world where email inboxes overflow and newsletters often go unread, one name consistently stands out for Camp Casey: Share Detroit. “When I see a newsletter from Share Detroit, I know it’s worth opening,” says Molly Reeser, Founder and Executive Director of Camp Casey, a nonprofit that brings horseback riding adventures to children with cancer and rare blood disorders. “It’s not just news—it’s opportunity.”

And that opportunity has made a real difference. One newsletter led Camp Casey to a pitch competition through Co.Act, where they won $5,000 in funding. Another helped connect them with free website support, saving them thousands of dollars. Through Share Detroit's volunteer portal, Camp Casey has mobilized helpers for summer programming, office support, and even tech needs.

But Share Detroit offers more than just exposure. It’s a community. A network. A toolbox of resources and education that empowers nonprofits to grow stronger, think more strategically, and do more good. “Share Detroit has helped us think outside the box, build new partnerships, and increase our visibility,” says Molly. “The more you put in, the more you get out.”

At networking events, like the annual Giving Tuesday workshop, Camp Casey has found like-minded organizations to collaborate with—some of whom are now volunteering with their Horsey House Call program this summer. From promoting fundraising tips like gift-matching to spotlighting volunteer opportunities, Share Detroit has become a cornerstone of Camp Casey’s outreach and growth strategy.

So, if you’re a nonprofit in Southeast Michigan wondering if Share Detroit is worth the time, Molly’s message is clear: Get involved. Dive in. The impact will follow.
