Small Change, Big Impact: Glow Fish Studios Rounds Up for SHARE Detroit!

SHARE Detroit has exciting news! Glow Fish Studios will be donating all round-up amounts from customer purchases in 2025 to SHARE! Glow Fish Studios is located at 2840 Biddle Street in Wyandotte, MI and sells a variety of home, lifestyle, and novelty items. In light of this news, we asked Glow Fish Studios owner Vanessa Morse to tell us more about her business, her decision to support SHARE, and how round-up donations work.

Glow Fish Studios was first founded as a bead store that offered lampworking classes, but the expense of providing proper ventilation and the difficulty of finding teachers for these classes led them to transition their service to retail. The shift was personally and professionally impactful because it allowed Morse to spend more time with her son while cultivating a thriving shop that people of all ages could enjoy. She stated proudly, “Families bring visitors and on half days lots of grandparents bring their grandchildren. People enjoy walking around and looking at all the fun, neat things we have in the shop.”

Glow Fish Studios and SHARE Detroit have a special connection: Kamryn Lowler, who works for SHARE’s public relations firm, Catalyst Media, is the daughter of one of the staff members at Glow Fish Studios! Every year, Glow Fish Studios consults with the staff on choosing a charity to donate to, but this new investment goes beyond family supporting family. Morse told us that SHARE’s mission of connecting community members with local nonprofits aligns with their own commitment to giving back the humans who make these communities special. “Life can be tough,” Morse reflected, “When we can give directly to help those in our community, we can make a difference. I want to make sure everyone’s money is getting put to good use.”

Round-up donations are a simple way to give back. The process works like this: when a customer makes a purchase, the cashier asks if they would like to round their total to the nearest dollar for donation. If a person were to buy $15.80 worth of product, they could round up and their donation would amount to 20 cents. Because this type of donation is always less than $1, Morse commented that, “Most people are happy to round up.” And over time, those 20 cents can add up. Let’s say 20 people donate 20 cents a day: that’s $4 a day. If the store is open seven days a week like Glow Fish Studios is, that’s $28 a week. Without factoring in holidays, that’s $1,456 a year from round-up donations! As Morse puts it, “Rounding up is a very painless way to help out.”

Nonprofits and local businesses working together leads to a mutually beneficial experience. While the nonprofit receives monetary support to maintain its operations, the business receives promotion while doing good. When a business is really committed to giving back, that promotion begets more good doing! For example, Glow Fish Studios works closely with Shop the Dotte to support other local businesses in Wyandotte and regularly engages in fundraising at various points in the year.

If you’re passionate about supporting Downriver businesses and Metro Detroit nonprofits, there’s no better place to go this year than Glow Fish Studios. And when they ask if you want to round up to donate to SHARE Detroit, say YES! On behalf of ourselves and all of our nonprofit partners who will benefit from Glow Fish Studios’ generosity, SHARE sends them a big thank you!
