Supporting Detroit Nonprofits During the NFL Draft
Crain’s Detroit Business recently published a guide to Detroit restaurants and recreation ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft, taking place in the city from April 25th to April 27th. Crain’s predicts that this event is going to bring more than 300,000 visitors to Detroit! This will no doubt be an exciting time for football fans and residents alike.
Several nonprofit establishments, such as the Charles H. Wright Museum and Eastern Market, receive a shoutout from Crain’s and there’s many other nonprofits throughout the city taking part of and benefiting from Draft festivities. For instance, SHARE Detroit partner Detroit PAL will be hosting a First Round VIP Watch Party at their historic Corner Ballpark location!
What’s more, as reported by Detroit Free Press, in the city’s plan for the Draft, $1 million dollars were set aside to go to supporting organizations that work with youth on literacy development and sports participation. The two beneficiaries of this funding are Project Play and SHARE partner Beyond Basics. Beyond Basics will put the money to good use by providing tutoring services to more children in Detroit.
One of the most artistic ways the public can support local nonprofits is through the DCLEATED Sculpture Project. Spread throughout downtown, you’ll see large football cleats painted with unique designs by local artists. Not only are they cool to look at, but each cleat will be auctioned off to support a different charity! SHARE partners benefiting from this project include Detroit Hives, American Indian Health & Family Services, Kids Without Cancer, Belle Isle Conservancy, The Children's Center, Gleaners Community Food Bank, Beyond Basics, and Teen HYPE.
It is so exciting to have the NFL Draft in our city! We hope visitors and locals alike enjoy all that the city has to offer – from restaurants, to our public spaces, to nonprofits. Please plan to DO GOOD as you celebrate, just as the city of Detroit has! SHARE Detroit hosts more than 390+ local nonprofits that do good in the community every day. While visiting Detroit from out of town or just up the road, please visit SHARE Detroit and thank the NFL Draft planners by making a small donation back to Detroit nonprofits. SHARE Detroit is the place you go to give.
