Wrapping up Pride Month!

Pride for the LGBTQIA+ community is not a new phenomenon. Motor City Pride traces its history to demonstrations held in Detroit in June 1972 to protest homophobic laws and support LGBT rights. Pride is a time of great celebration, but it is also a time to provide assistance for those within the community.
At SHARE, we know that need doesn’t get vacation and allyship for LGBTQ youth and adults must extend beyond June, so as Pride Month comes to a close, we want to highlight two LGBT+ supporting nonprofits we are partnered with: Ruth Ellis Center and Today Is the Day Inc.
Ruth Ellis Center provides “trauma-informed services for lesbian, gay, bi-attractional, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ+) youth, and young adults, with an emphasis on young people of color, experiencing homelessness, involved in the child welfare system, and/or experiencing barriers to health and wellbeing.” Their mission is to help young LGBT people build brighter futures.
Today Is the Day Inc.’s mission involves “creating a loving relationship between parent and child and equipping youth with the confidence and skills to be who they want to be.” They provide families and the community with training, workshops, and support groups.
