From 90 to 330: The Table's Journey of Nourishing Families
The Table has grown rapidly, now providing meals for over 70 families—about 330 people in need. At the start of the school year, they served just 90 individuals, but with new connections in the school district, more families have turned to them for support. To keep up with this growing need, they have set a fundraising goal of $1,000 for the month.
The Table’s Mission
At The Table, their mission is simple: No child should ever go without food. They achieve this by ensuring that children and their families have access to nutritious food whenever school is not in session.
How It Began/Our Story
In 2023, they discovered that many local elementary students were only eating while at school—going hungry over weekends and school breaks. Recognizing this urgent need, unable to turn a blind eye, the team at Called to More (CTM) created The Table, a program dedicated to providing consistent food support for children and their families in need.
How It Works/What They Do
Every Friday during the school year, The Table volunteers pack and deliver food bags to school aged children and their families. Each bag contains enough nonperishable food to cover breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks for the entire household throughout the weekend. By ensuring the whole family has enough to eat, they help guarantee that no child goes without food and receives the nourishment they need.
During summer and holiday breaks CTM expands The Table efforts, packing and delivering food throughout the weeks of extra time off. Before the school year ends, they organize a food drive, collecting nonperishable items to supplement fresh food purchased on delivery days.
Why It Matters
Research shows that hunger impacts a child’s ability to learn and thrive, affecting their future success. At The Table, they believe that by combating food insecurity, we are not only nourishing children today but also investing in their future. We are helping shape a brighter future for the children we serve.
Their Impact
What started as a small initiative has now grown to serve every school in the Monroe Public School District, providing food for over 330 people each week.
