National Financial Awareness Day (August 14th)
“I see financial education as an important part of that foundation of learning that children need to have in a world that is ever more complicated and requires that all of us understand computation and finance, and the implication of savings, because they are key to participating fully in what life has to offer in the United States.” - Paul H. O’Neil
Did you know that August 14th is National Financial Awareness Day? Being financially literate means that you have the proper knowledge to make informed decisions on your own finances. Like all forms of literacy, financial literacy is a skill that can be learned and developed through practice. Ask any economic expert and they will tell you that the development of financial literacy should begin young. At SHARE, we are partnered with several nonprofits working towards just that.
Junior Achievement of Southeasten Michigan, Michigan Council on Economic Education, and Project Rise all provide programs centered on imbuing young people with the information they need to start their journey of financial wellbeing. If you believe in supporting financial literacy, please read more about their individual missions.
We hope that you will take the time to support these organizations by attending an event, volunteering time, donating money, or shopping their wish-lists! If you are still in search of a nonprofit to support, please check out our directory here.
