Some call it stories. Others call it a blog. But here you will find nuggets of goodness to use and -- you guessed it -- SHARE!

Winter is Coming!

My friend Kimber Bishop-Yanke continues to walk her talk to help our neighbors in need. Using a foreboding headline from Game of Thrones alerts all giving individuals that the need and daunting situations that many adults and families are facing are unceasing. Kimber and her angels are helping those in serious conditions but the calls continue to come in from multiple contacts around Oakland County, Michigan.

Farmworker Appreciation Day

“I have met many, many farmworkers and friends who love justice and who are willing to sacrifice for what is right. They have a quality about them that reminds me of the beatitudes. They are living examples that Jesus’ promise is true: they have been hungry and thirsty for righteousness and they have been satisfied. They are determined, patient people who believe in life and who give strength to others.” - Cesar Chavez

World Day Against Trafficking in Persons

“That’s the point I really want to drive home about sex trafficking. The most important part to saving victims is realizing how many different ways we could have done something before as anything as horrific as to what happened to me happens to me someone else.”
– Jose Alfaro, survivor of sex trafficking, quoted in The Polaris Project

Nonprofit Spotlight: A Girl Like Me

Sunday morning I had the opportunity to meet a special individual that survived a harsh ‘lifequake’ moment when she was a teenager. Life often throws many unexpected realities at us and often tests our spirit and perseverance to make life purposeful. Tyra Moore was a teenage mom at 15. She was terrified to tell her mom and gave birth to her daughter the same week she finally broke the news. After the shock wore off, support came from all of her family, friends, and community, providing essential baby needs at a critical time.

COTS Begins a New Chapter With a New Name.

Starting July 1, 2022, we're beginning a new chapter with a brand new name. No longer will we be known as the Coalition On Temporary Shelter. We're now officially: COTS.

We've come a long way from our 1982 start as a coalition of parties focused mainly on homeless single men. COTS is now an independent organization that supports families seeking housing stability, whole-spectrum health, career development and so much more through our Passport To Self-Sufficiency™ framework.
