Some call it stories. Others call it a blog. But here you will find nuggets of goodness to use and -- you guessed it -- SHARE!

How to Volunteer with Seniors in Metro Detroit

If you’re looking to volunteer with seniors in Metro Detroit, this blog post will detail how to use the search features of SHARE Detroit’s website to find nonprofits, volunteer opportunities, events, and wish lists relating to the care of senior citizens!

First, you may simply want to peruse our directory with a specific search for nonprofits serving seniors. To do this, you can click “Find Nonprofits” on the homepage or “Donate” on the navigation bar. From there, you will use the sidebar to check “Seniors” from the “Who It Helps” category.

National Suicide Prevention Month

“We don't kill ourselves. We are simply defeated by the long, hard struggle to stay alive. When somebody dies after a long illness, people are apt to say, with a note of approval, "He fought so hard." And they are inclined to think, about a suicide, that no fight was involved, that somebody simply gave up. This is quite wrong.” - Sally Brampton

National Financial Awareness Day (August 14th)

“I see financial education as an important part of that foundation of learning that children need to have in a world that is ever more complicated and requires that all of us understand computation and finance, and the implication of savings, because they are key to participating fully in what life has to offer in the United States.” - Paul H. O’Neil

How to Volunteer with Children in Metro Detroit

SHARE Detroit is partnered with a number of great nonprofits that work to support children in Metro Detroit. With so many nonprofits to choose from, it can be hard to decide which one (or ones!) you can give your time or money to! SHARE is here to make that choice easier! There are several ways you can use our website search features to find a nonprofit that aligns with your values.

Hop-A-Park Day (first Saturday in July)

"My perfect weekend is going for a walk with my family in the park. I don't think there's anything better." – Anne Wojcicki

Did you know the first Saturday in July is National Hop-A-Park Day? This is a day that encourages people to get out and explore the parks around them! Parks provide a great place for people to gather and enjoy nature. Whether they’re tucked away in neighborhoods, the center of cities and towns, or part of a nature reserve, parks are important to the wellbeing of our peoples and planets!

Happy Fourth of July!

“We must be free not because we claim freedom, but because we practice it.” — William Faulkner

As we gather for this long weekend to celebrate the anniversary of our nation’s independence, let us use this time to reflect on what America means to ourselves and what it could mean for others. Need does not get a vacation so just as we want to gather and enjoy the company of our friends and family, it is important to remember those who may have a more complicated relationship to Independence Day or are otherwise requiring help this holiday.
